The MIPAS Bologna Facility

Overview

The MIPAS Bologna Facility (MBF) is designed to support the ongoing effort to collect and maintain a complete database of MIPAS (Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding) level1b measurements and of level2 products.
The MIPAS Bologna Facility also provides the "open source" GMTR (Geofit Multi-Target Retrieval) retrieval package that has been designed, under ESA contract, for the two-dimensional and multi target analysis of MIPAS observations.
The MBF should also be regarded as a basis for possible collaboration with external groups seeking for support in the scientific exploitation of the MIPAS experiment.

MBF hardware characteristic

MBF is equipped with a 30 Tb (Terabytes) hard-disks system that can be directly accessed by a set of computers composed by:
1 server 2 CPUs XEON Esa-core 64 bit, 2.67 GHz clock, 48 Gb RAM, Linux operating system;
1 server 2 CPUs XEON Quad-core 64 bit, 2.67 GHz clock, 32 Gb RAM, Linux operating system;
1 server 2 CPUs XEON Quad-core 64 bit, 3.0 GHz clock, 32 Gb RAM, Linux operating system;
1 server 2 CPUs XEON Quad-core 64 bit, 2.6 GHz clock, 32 Gb RAM, Linux operating system;
1 server 2 CPUs XEON Quad-core 64 bit, 1.8 GHz clock, 16 Gb RAM, Linux operating system;
1 server 2 CPUs AMD 64 2.4 GHz clock, 8 Gb RAM, Linux operating system;
1 Compaq Alpha server ES45, 2CPUs 1GHz clock, 5 Gb RAM, UNIX OSF operating system;
1 server 2 CPUs XEON 32 bit 700 MHz clock, 8 Gb RAM, Linux operating system.
